Low pressure carburizing: ALLCARB®
For over twenty years now, low pressure carburizing has been an interesting alternative to conventional carburizing techniques. Having been curbed for a long time by economic factors and the reluctance of certain users, it has become more accessible over the past five years and has contributed to considerable improvements in homogeneity, penetration and total absence of intergranular corrosion.
BMI offers the ALLCARB® solution as an option on all of the furnaces in the high temperature range. Using ethylene as the carburizing gas, ALLCARB® is noted for its remarkable industrial results: Accurate, reproducible and homogenous.
Its has integrated software support for easy operation that enables users to determine the cycle settings according to the depth and grade of steel required. Users are able to alter the settings to optimise them for specific applications.
Nevertheless, being able to offer efficient low pressure carburizing technology is not simply attributable to having the most flexible technique on the market. The quenching aspect of the technique continues to be a neglected topic during low pressure carburizing debates.
Quenching pressurised gas, regardless of the actual pressure and nature of the gas is limited in capacity. Under extreme pressure, the deformations remains similar to those obtained with oil quenching processes.
Homogeneity is guaranteed when oil quenching techniques are used for massive loads, although these are not necessarily required for carburizing steels with optimised hardenability.
Owing to its dual oil and gas quenching functions, the B6_THC furnace can be used for the treatment of a very wide scope of steels ranging from classic carburizing steels to high performance steels and stainless steels. This makes the furnace the ideal solution for processors of custom or integrated steels who have a wide variety of parts to process (special steels and specifications).
Naturally, the industrial ALLCARB® low pressure carburizing process can equip the whole range of furnaces specifically designed for oil quenching or gas quenching. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information: infos@bmi-fours.com, specifying ALLCARB / info as the subject.
