The COOL PLUS technique, patented by SCHMETZ, is available for the entire BMI range of tempering furnaces (B5_R). This sub-zero treatment is ideal for stainless steels, high-speed steels, and tools, performed between quenching and tempering cycles.
Process:
- Uses liquid nitrogen injection, vaporizing within the heating zone to produce mixed gaseous nitrogen.
- Surface temperatures range between -40°C and -120°C.
- Fully automated and controlled for perfect reproducibility.
Benefits:
- Reduces residual austenite.
- Increases hardness and dimensional stability.
- Retains exceptional brilliance of treated parts.
- Reduces tempering cycle time and costs, enhancing competitiveness.
Example:
- X20Cr13 steel quenched at 1035°C and brought to -100°C achieves 690HV hardness, compared to 640HV without sub-zero treatment.
